T-Shirt for Delaney BBQ in Brooklyn

Recently finished this T-shirt design for Delaney BBQ in Brooklyn, AKA Briskettown. I've worked with Dan Delaney before at VendrTV, and it's awesome to see him going from video blogger to hardcore brisket perfectionist. Need to get up there and try some real soon.

Limited to a run of 500 shirts, you can pick them up at the restaurant, or online for $30 a pop.

Sandwich Show at American Sardine Bar

BIG Thanks to everyone who came to check out the show & also to chef Scott Schroeder & Michael Jordan at ASB for hooking it up. The show will be up until January at American Sardine Bar, 18th & Federal in Philadelphia.

25 sandwich paintings, some are from the menus of American Sardine and South Philly Taproom, others are Philly classics, then some random regional stuff that I've always wanted to draw.

A bunch are still for sale, you can check them out at the bar or just email me (hawk krall at gmail dot com) for more info & prices.Check out the whole show on flickr and/or the awesome article that Drew Lazor wrote about the show for the Daily News.

These were all done on wood with house paint - something I'm getting into that's faster & looser than my illustrations. I don't do anything more than a thumbnail sketch (if at all) before drawing straight onto the board, different from my detailed hot dog diagram illustrations where I painstakingly agonize over every detail with 20 layers of tracing paper.

Definitely into doing work like this for clients - I don't know how well they will scan and reproduce, but if you're just looking for something to hang in your restaurant or hot dog cart, I can do this a lot faster & cheaper than the other stuff, and you'll receive it ready to go up on the wall or whatever.

Also debuting at the show was the South Philly / South Africa Gatsby Combo in which Scott and myself collaborated to attempt fusion of the South Africa Gatsby Sandwich and the infamous Philly Combo

For this special Scott has been driving up to Rieker's in Fox Chase to pick up their mind-blowing beef and pork frankfurters - maybe one of the best in the country - if I was running a kitchen in Philadelphia there is no way I wouldn't serve these. Topped with deep fried cod, skate wing and potato fish cakes, mustard seed /  longhot pepper hash (nod to both philly and the indian achtar pickles served on Gatsbys in South Africa) and tumeric mayo.

I don't know if this thing has much to do with authentic Gastbys or real Philly Surf & Turf but it's freaking delicious. Even though it sounds insane, it really really works. On the menu until January, when ASB will unveil the next monthly guest sandwich.

STUDIO CLEANOUT MEGA ART SALE

It's that time again.. cleaning out my studio and selling off piles of artwork old and new for CHEAP. I've got leftover stuff from my 1026 Show, plenty of hot dog and food paintings... ancient Philadelphia Weekly Steven Wells illos, etc etc etc. Get it now while the getting's good. If you want a bunch of stuff email me (hawkkrall @ gmail dot com) about discounts on shipping or whatever.

Check out everything that's up for sale at  hawkkrall.net or scroll down to see some featured items-

Martin Starr as Roman from Party Down, aka the last TV show I actually laughed at. There's also one of Ron Donald, the manager who's dream was opening a "Soup or Crackers" franchise. 30 bucks.

Wild "frankenburger" illustration I did for a "best burgers" article in Cincinnati Magazine a while back. $225

One of several from Steven Wells' On The Radar column I have available. This one was something about Americans secretly wanting to be spanked and berated by their British superiors aka Gordon Ramsay. I illustrated Wells' Philadelphia Weekly column for years so I have tons more if there's any Swells historians out there. Most under $100.

Dolph Lungren as the Punisher from the terribly awesome 1989 movie, for Shepard Fairey's Swindle Magazine. This was in the now super rare (50 bucks on ebay!) Issue #8 with Banksy stuff on the cover. 100 bucks.

Ultra obscure hawk krall hot dog art, for a Brazilian "internationally themed" hot dog restaurant that never got off the ground. $150.

From the same Brazilian hot dog job. $50

Darryl from Storage Wars! Marked down to $125 along with similar portraits of Jarrod & Dave Hester.

Punk rock ice cream! For Seattle Stranger. $39.

And TONS more. Check them out here: hawkkrall.net/store

Storage Wars Portraits- Jarrod, Darrell and Original Art For Sale

More Storage Wars portraits! I've already done Barry and Don Dotson, Mark Bolelo and Dave Hester.. was hoping to have drawings of the whole cast in time for the season finale but just didn't make it.

Darrell Sheets was almost too easy with his awesome Guy Fieri meets beach bum style. In the running for being my favorite character, his website is pretty much the best thing on the internet where you can buy official "Darrell the Gambler" T-shirts and merchandise and even stuff he finds in lockers like an 1890's cast iron spear or a rare Surfaris LP with artwork by Rick Griffin.

I really wanted to wait until I had a good Brandi drawing before putting this up but just haven't gotten her face down yet. You'll have to wait for next season. Anyway Jarrod also has an awesome clothing line Outlaw Apparel featuring ladies with guns and an amazing handcuff logo.

And one more Dave Hester who everyone loves to hate and I hear might not be coming back to the show next season? Also Dave has posted all of my Storage Wars artwork on his facebook page which is amazing.

Don't know what I'm going to until next season, maybe start drawing Victor and Moe from Storage Wars Texas? There's also got to be some way I can combine Storage Wars with hot dogs.. I bet these guys know every good hot dog stand and taco truck in Southern California..

Anyway all the originals of these are now available for sale on my website hurry up and grab them before Barry and Dave buy them all.

NEW PRINTS!! Free magnets with every order & free shipping on sets of 4!

TONS of new hot dog (and burger) prints in my store, including some new & exciting stuff like the giant 24" tall burger print and a whole bunch of more affordable (16 bucks a pop), smaller 8" x 10" prints. These are all high quality giclee prints done by the fine folks at Silicon Gallery Fine Art Prints in Philadelphia. They seriously look almost better than the original paintings.

I'll be shipping FREE sets of five hot dog magnets (ten for big orders) with every order from now until they run out! I have a LOT, they probably won't run out. Selection will be random but if you let me know which you prefer, I'll send it if I have it.

Also for the month of December I'm offering FREE SHIPPING on orders for a set of 4 11 x 14 prints. ($100 even). You can also mix & match and do three 11 x 14 prints and two 8 x 10 prints (or 2 big ones and 4 small ones) for the same price. Order here:
Hawk Krall Prints

Skeeter's is an awesome general store / restaurant in Wytheville Virginia. Glass bottles of coke and famous chili slaw dogs. Also pretty decent pulled pork sandwich.

Ecuador has awesome hot dogs covered in crazy sauces. A set of four with the Torta Salchicha, Perro Caliente and Tijuana Dog prints would make an awesome "Latin American" collection.

Crazy 2 foot tall exploding burger Illustration I did for Cincinnati Magazine a couple years ago about the city's best burgers.

AWESOME Polish Boy / Barbecue spot in Cleveland.

One of the first paintings I did for hot dog of the week.. Flo's famous red shack on Route 1 in Maine.

Awesome mini-chain in South Carolina serving up beautiful all beef dogs topped with pimento cheese on "top split buns" that are all over the south (not just New England!).

Amazing German butcher shop / grocery n Portland that makes their own hot dogs and sausages, and serves them outside right off the grill.

Crazy variation on the Flint Coney which is already a variation of the Detroit Coney (or vice versa, if you're from Flint Michigan). Koegel's natural casing dog, chili, mustard and onions on a hard taco shell! The regular coneys are great too, and Angelo's is an amazing place.

Famous Lunch in Troy, NY serves up tiny hot dogs for something like 65 cents each. Buried under their famous "Zippy Sauce" and onions. Also terrific rice pudding.

Dirty O Artwork & Prints

Unfortunately I don't have the time to do a full-on painting every week for Hot Dog Of The Week (my column on Serious Eats).. these things take me at least a few days to finish... but every once in a while there's a place so awesome that it really deserves an illustration. The Dirty O was one of them, awesome food along with awesome hand painted signs covering every inch of the place. They also sell beer and greeting cards. The vibe was more Philly Cheesesteak stand than hot dog joint.

Anyway check out the process shots below or check out the article on Serious Eats. Or pick up a 10 X 14 giclee print of the artwork here- www.hawkkrall.net/prints
